NPL QLD Men’s Round 10 Preview

Teams won't need any extra motivation heading into the weekend’s NPL Queensland Men’s Round 10 action following the confirmation of Suncorp Stadium as the venue for this year’s Grand Final.

Brisbane City host Sunshine Coast Wanderers at Imperial Corp Stadium in the opening match of the weekend on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides will be seeking to turn around their luck after slipping down the ladder with defeats last weekend.

City will be without their leading marksman Jordan Thurtell who was sent off in last weekend’s 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Young Roar.

Two inform sides go head-to-head when league leaders Gold Coast United travel to face Rochedale Rovers at Underwood Park on Saturday night.

Rochedale have picked up a pair of impressive wins over Lions and Olympic since interim Head Coach Scott MacNicol took charge of the side a fortnight ago.

United meanwhile have won five matches on the bounce and remain the league’s only undefeated side.

Rochedale and United met earlier this year in the Kappa Pro Series, playing out a high octane 3-3 draw at Coplicks in February.

Peninsula Power will have a new Head Coach in charge when they play host to Moreton Bay at AJ Kelly Park on Saturday evening.

Aaron Philp returns for a second stint at the club he lead to a pair of NPL Queensland Premierships in 2020 & 2021.

Philp stepped aside following a slow start to the 2022 campaign but has returned to the helm after the club mutually parted ways with Rick Coghlan last week.

Philp’s first test is a clash against high flying Moreton Bay who sit second after defeating Young Roar 3-1 last weekend.

The sides have already met once this season with goals from Naoki Maeda and Marquez Walters securing a 2-1 win for the Jets in the Kappa Pro Series.

In Saturday’s second match at AJ Kelly Park seventh placed Young Roar play host to sixth placed Redlands United.

The sides sit four and two points outside of the finals positions respectively and will know three points on Saturday will be crucial in closing the gap on the sides above them.

On Sunday Gold Coast Knights host Olympic in a rematch of the 2022 Grand Final at the Croatian Sports Centre.

The two sides have experienced vastly contrasting fortunes following last season’s showpiece event with Knights currently sitting in third position while Olympic are left languishing at the bottom of the league.

Defending Premiers Lions host Eastern Suburbs at Luxury Paints Stadium in Sunday’s other match.

Lions climbed to fourth with a 1-1 draw against Gold Coast Knights last weekend while Eastern Suburbs slipped into the relegation zone following a 1-0 loss to Peninsula Power.

The sides have already met once this season with Easts running out 4-3 winners in a seven goal thriller at the same venue in the Kappa Pro Series.
