NPL Queensland Men’s Round 3 action gets underway on Friday night with Peninsula Power hosting Young Roar in the first of six matches across the weekend.
Both Power and Roar go in search of their first win of the new season at AJ Kelly Park on Friday with Roar picking up their first point in a 0-0 draw against Gold Coast United last weekend while the two-time Premiers have opened an NPL Queensland campaign with back-to-back losses for the first time in their history.
The pick of the weekend’s action sees Lions and Brisbane City go head-to-head in the Brisbane Classico at Luxury Paints Stadium on Saturday evening.
In a reversal of fortunes from recent seasons it’s Brisbane City who come into Saturday’s clash level at the top of the league with two wins from two while Lions languish in ninth following a pair of draws to open the new campaign.
Moreton Bay United, who sit level with City at the top of the standings and are the only other side to take maximum point so far travel down the M1 to take on defending Champions Gold Coast Knights at the Croatian Sports Centre on Saturday evening.

Elsewhere on Saturday night newly promoted pair Redlands United and Rochedale Rovers go up against one another in a rematch of last season’s FQPL1 Grand Final at Compass Grounds while Gold Coast United host Eastern Suburbs at Coplicks.
Just one game will be played on Sunday with Sunshine Coast Wanderers playing host to Olympic FC at Ballinger Park.
Paul Arnison’s youthful Wanderers outfit have enjoyed an impressive start to the new campaign beating 2021 Premiers Peninsula Power on the road in round one before only being denied all three points by a 95th minute Jesse Rigby strike in a 1-1 draw against defending Premiers Lions last weekend.
Meanwhile last season’s Grand Finalists Olympic are one of three sides yet to pick up a point this season and will look to kick start their campaign with three points on Sunday.
