Three of the weekend’s four NPL Queensland Men’s matches were decided by goals from the 86th minute onwards in a rain-interrupted round of action.

Catch up on all the action below!

Lions FC 6-3 Brisbane City

Despite letting a three-goal lead slip Lions managed to grab all three points and Brisbane Classico honours in an exhilarating 6-3 win over Brisbane City at Luxury Paints Stadium on Saturday evening.

Lions academy product Ivan Ozzi enjoyed a senior debut to remember, netting twice in the opening nine minutes with a pair of opportunistic finishes to hand Darren Sime’s side an early lead.

Lions looked to be home and hosed ten minutes later when Matthew Ridenton slammed a finish into the bottom corner on the end of a well-worked team move.

But City clawed their way back into the contest pulling one back through former Lion Jheison Macuace on the stroke of half time before a pair of quickfire goals from Daniel Bowles and Scott Halliday saw the scores levelled at 3-3 early in the second stanza.

Andy Pengelly reinstated Lions lead and opened his goalscoring account for 2023 in the 70th minute when he pounced and finished after Sean Carlos’ initial effort struck the post.

Five minutes later Riley Stent failed to handle a Lions corner, conceding an own goal before Jean Carlos Solorzano got in the act in the 85th minute to round out the defending Premiers first win of the new season in emphatic fashion.

Gold Coast Knights 2-2 Moreton Bay United

A 91st minute Sam Knight strike denied Gold Coast Knights victory as Moreton Bay snatched a point to maintain their spot at the top of the table in a 2-2 draw at the Croatian Sports Centre on Saturday evening.

Joe Scott capitalised to put the visitors ahead in the 13th minute when he found the bottom corner from the top of the box following a Knights defensive mishap.

Knights levelled the scores in the 57th minute through a stunning Ante Poljak free kick before the forward completed his brace from the penalty spot five minutes later to put the hosts ahead.

With the visitors starring down the barrel of defeat Knight popped up to slam the ball into the bottom corner after combining with Marquez Walters and keep the Jets undefeated record intact.

Gold Coast United 1-1 Eastern Suburbs

Knights cross-town rivals Gold Coast United were also denied at the death with a 96th minute Emilio Martinez penalty earning Easts a share of the spoils at Coplicks after a 2nd minute Cai Tipaldo header had the hosts in front for nearly the entirety of the match.

Redlands United 1-2 Rochedale Rovers

Rochedale picked up their first ever NPL Queensland win with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Redlands United at Compass Grounds on Saturday night.

A close-range Ryo Emoto looked to have the home side on course for victory in the rematch of last season's FQPL 1 Grand Final before Harry Talbot levelled the scores with a 77th minute penalty.

Marek Madle then got in behind the defence and slammed home a low finish off the inside of the post to seal all three points for Rovers in the 86th minute.
