NPL QLD Men’s Round 4 Preview

Just three points separate first and eighth position on the NPL Queensland Men’s ladder heading into the weekend’s Round 4 action.

League leaders Moreton Bay United open the weekend’s action at home against Eastern Suburbs at Wolter Park on Saturday evening.

Both sides come into Saturday’s match after snatching a point thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser on their respective travels down the M1 last weekend.

A 91st minute Sam Knight strike saw Moreton Bay take a point in a 2-2 draw against defending Champions Gold Coast Knights at Croatian Sports Centre while Easts left it even later equalising through a 97th minute Emilio Martinez penalty in a 1-1 draw against Gold Coast United.

Sunshine Coast Wanderers who sit level with the Jets at the top of the standings on seven points host Rochedale Rovers at Ballinger Park on Sunday evening.

Paul Arnison’s side have enjoyed an impressive undefeated start the new campaign after facing three of last season’s top four, coming out with wins against Peninsula Power and Olympic in the rescheduled match on Tuesday night (highlights below) as well as a draw against defending Premiers Lions.

Newly promoted Rochedale come into Sunday’s match after picking up their first ever NPL Queensland victory over Redlands in an FQPL 1 Grand Final rematch last weekend.

Third placed Brisbane City are in home action at Imperial Corp Stadium for the first time in 2023 against Olympic on Saturday night.

Despite fighting their way back from a three goal first half deficit the Azzurri suffered their first defeat of the new campaign last weekend, going down 6-3 to Lions in the Brisbane Classico.

Karl Dodd’s side come up against an Olympic team who have uncharacteristically struggled so far this season, sitting rock bottom of the NPL Queensland standing as the only side yet to pick up a point.

Saturday’s other match sees the defending FQPL 1 Champions Redlands United host reigning NPL Queensland Champions Gold Coast Knights at Compass Grounds.

On Sunday two matches will be played at AJ Kelly Park, with Peninsula Power, who picked up their first point of the new campaign in a draw against Roar on Tuesday night in another rescheduled match (highlights below) host undefeated Gold Coast United at 5:30pm.

Following that game defending Premiers Lions ,who won their first game of the new season last weekend will face Young Roar at 7:30pm.
