Moreton Bay United 5-2 Eastern Suburbs
Moreton Bay maintained their spot at the top of the table with an emphatic 5-2 win over Eastern Suburbs at Wolter Park in the opening match of the weekend.
The league’s leading goal scorer Marquez Walters netted his third and fourth goals of the season while Joe Scott, Declan Smith and Chris Maher also got in on the goalscoring act for the Jets.
Emilio Martinez who sits equal second on the leading goal scorers charts netted a second half brace for the visitors.
Sunshine Coast Wanderers 1-0 Rochedale Rovers
Keeping pace with the Jets at the top of the league are Sunshine Coast Wanderers, who defeated Rochedale 1-0 thanks to a first half Matt Nezval penalty at Ballinger Park on Sunday evening.
Sunday’s other winners round out the competition’s top four with Gold Coast United and Lions both coming away with important wins in a double header at AJ Kelly Park.
Peninsula Power 0-2 Gold Coast United
United grabbed their second win of the new season with a victory over Peninsula Power who are left languishing at the bottom of the league.
Alex Walter headed home the opener in the fifth minute before Blake Thompson’s second half penalty rounded out the score line for Grae Piddick’s side who remain undefeated so far this season.
Brisbane Roar Youth 0-1 Lions FC
Lions moved into the top four for the first time this season courtesy of a 1-0 win over Young Roar in Sunday’s second game at AJ Kelly Park.
Louis Fenton scored the games only goal in the 14th minute when he latched onto Ryo Ono’s dinked pass, spun his marker and finished into the bottom corner from close range to keep Lions undefeated record intact.
Redlands United 0-3 Gold Coast Knights
Defending Champions Gold Coast Knights finish the weekend a point outside of the top four despite defeating Redlands United 3-0 at Compass Grounds on Saturday night.
First half headers from Ante Poljak and Janiel Da Silva had Scott McDonald’s side 2-0 up at the break before Pasquale De Vita rounded out the scoring with a poachers finish early in the second stanza.
Brisbane City 2-2 Olympic FC
Brisbane City sit level with the Knights on seven points after playing out a 2-2 draw with Olympic on their return to Imperial Corp Stadium on Saturday night.
Zac Kierpal netted his second goal in as many games to put the visitors ahead early, before Matt Thurtell equalised with a back post finish for City just five minutes after having a penalty saved by Josh Render.
City took the lead two minutes into the second half through Noah Maieroni who slammed home a first-time finish from distance but Olympic snatched a share of the spoils and their first point of the season after Rylan Bronwlie turned home a Costa Psaros cross in the 77th minute.
