Two of the league’s traditional heavyweights go head-to-head when Lions host Peninsula Power at Luxury Paints Stadium on Saturday night.

Lions come into the match undefeated in fourth position with two wins and two draws to their name so far this season meanwhile Power surprisingly have struggled and sit at the foot of the table with just a solitary point to their name.

Rick Coghlan’s side did manage to pick up a victory in the Australia Cup midweek defeating SWQ Thunder 2-1 while Lions were comprehensive 8-1 winners over New Farm United.

It’s first versus third at Coplicks Sports Park on Saturday evening when league leaders Moreton Bay United travel to take on the also undefeated Gold Coast United.

The Jets have enjoyed an impressive start to the new season and will be further boosted by a 2-0 win over fellow table toppers Sunshine Coast Wanderers in the Australia Cup on Wednesday night.

United will also undoubtedly come in Saturday’s match full of confidence following a start to the season that’s included victories over defending Champions Gold Coast Knights and another traditional heavyweight, Peninsula Power.

A little further up the road Sunshine Coast Wanderers, who sit level with the Jets at the top of the table take on Gold Coast Knights at the Croatian Sports Centre.

The Wanderers will look to continue an unbeaten start that’s already seen them face the rest of the league’s traditional big four while Knights, who currently sit sixth with seven points to their name will see Saturday’s match as an opportunity to move into the finals places.

Saturday’s other match sees eighth placed Eastern Suburbs host seventh placed Redlands at Heath Park on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides come into Saturday’s match with four points from their opening four fixtures and will look to move up the ladder with three points knowing a number of the sides currently above them on the ladder play one another this weekend.

The first of Sunday’s two matches sees Brisbane City host Rochedale Rovers at Imperial Corp Stadium.

After waiting five months to play at home fifth placed City now have their second home match in the space of a week and will look to bounce back after going winless in their last two outings in the league against a Rochedale side who go in search of their second win of the season.

The final match of the weekend sees tenth placed Brisbane Roar Youth host eleventh placed Olympic at AJ Kelly Park with both sides chasing their first three points of the 2023 season.
