There are key battles in both the races for finals football and a bid to avoid relegation across the weekend’s NPL Queensland Women’s action.
League leaders Lions host Gold Coast United in a re-match of last season’s Grand Final at Luxury Paints Stadium on Saturday night.
A 92nd minute Amy Gunston winner separated the sides in a 4-3 thriller when they met in a top-of-the-table clash at Coplicks in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
The sides fortunes have gone in opposite directions since the seven goal thriller with Lions currently five points clear at the top of the league while United have won just two from seven since that day leaving them in fourth position.
In that time fifth placed Mitchelton have cut the gap between themselves and United to just two points and alongside Sunshine Wanderers will look to pounce in a battle between fifth and sixth at Teralba Park on Saturday night.
The Wanderers sit a further six points behind Mitchelton on the league table but will be eyeing off a surge up the standings after winning their last two matches on the bounce.
The sides traded blows through Kallie Peurifoy and Isboel Berks in a 1-1 draw at Ballinger Park when they met earlier in the season.
Elsewhere on Saturday second placed Eastern Suburbs will look to make it back-to-back wins when they host QAS at Heath Park, while third placed Peninsula Power aim to keep touch with the top two when they go head-to-head with Souths United at AJ Kelly Park.
On Sunday Capalaba host Olympic at Max Haynes in a crucial match in the pairs, who currently occupy the bottom two positions on the league table bids to avoid relegation.
With eighth placed QAS unable to be relegated, Capalaba and Olympic respectively sit three and five points adrift of safety at the bottom.
Both sides have changed coaches in recent weeks with Capalaba last week appointing club Techincal Director, Gary Bailey as Interim Head Coach following the departure of Archford Kahondo.
Olympic meanwhile are yet to publicly announce a new Head Coach following confirmation a fortnight ago that Russell Summerville had departed the club.
A 92nd minute Kyla Hanson winner secured all three points for Capalaba in a 3-2 victory when the sides went head-to-head at Max Haynes Field in Round 6.
