With just nine rounds to go and all sides having already faced one another twice the weekend’s NPL Queensland Women’s Round 19 action marks the start of the home strait of the 2023 season.
With league leaders Lions not in action this weekend, second placed Easts will look to close the gap on top spot when they host Olympic at Heath Park on Friday night.
Easts, who start the weekend seven points adrift of Lions come in Friday’s clash off the back of a 3-0 win over Capalaba in their last outing.
Lachlan Leong’s side come up against an Olympic outfit who remain bottom of the standings despite picking up a point in a goalless draw with Sunshine Coast Wanderers last weekend.
The two previous meetings between the sides this season have resulted in an Easts win and a draw.
After returning to the top four last weekend Gold Coast United aim to further their finals push when they host Capalaba at Coplick Sports Park on Saturday evening.
They come up against a Capalaba side who remain in the relegation zone, four points shy of safety after losing 3-0 to Easts last weekend.
United took all three points in each of the previous meetings between the two sides so far this season.
Eight placed QAS take on third placed Peninsula Power at Wakerley Park on Saturday night.
QAS moved up the league table following a 1-1 draw with Mitchelton last weekend while Power saw the gap between themselves and second placed Easts extended to four points after suffering defeat at the hands on Gold Coast United.
Power took all three points with a 3-1 win last time the sides met while the pair played out a 2-2 draw on opening day.
The weekend’s final match pits Sunshine Coast Wanderers against Souths United at Ballinger Park on Sunday evening.
The pair currently occupy sixth and seventh on the league table respectively and will see Sunday’s match as an opportunity to put further space between themselves and the relegation zone.
The sides played out a 1-1 draw in Round One before the Wanderers ran out 2-1 winners in the most recent clash between the two sides.
The final match of Round 19 between Mitchelton and Lions will be played next Saturday with the pair meeting in the Kappa Women’s Super Cup Semi Finals this weekend.
