NPL QLD Women's Round 5 Preview

After the competition received a shake up last weekend an enticing serving of NPL Queensland Women’s Round 5 action gets underway on Saturday afternoon.

Defending Champions Lions will look to bounce back after having their incredible 61 match unbeaten run brought to an end by Eastern Suburbs last weekend when they take on Capalaba at Luxury Paints Stadium on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs are also looking for a return to form after suffering back-to-back defeats that have seen them slip out of the top four in recent weeks.

If the Premiership is to end up somewhere other than Richlands this season Saturday’s match up between Gold Coast United and Eastern Suburbs will likely prove to be a good indicator as to where that will be.

United currently sit top of the league with four wins from four, having beaten Sunshine Coast Wanderers 4-0 in their last outing, Easts meanwhile trail the league leaders by four points but will be riding high after showcasing their potential in last weekend’s triumph over Lions.

United’s Japanese midfielder Momo Hayashi, who already has three goals and two assists to her name this season will be key for the hosts who will also have to keep a close eye on Easts attacker Sofie Persson following her brilliant brace against Lions last weekend.

Another team looking to enter the top four conversation are Mitchelton who host Souths United at Teralba Park on Saturday night and will look to move into the top four if they’re able to secure their third win on the trot.

In Saturday’s other match Sunshine Coast Wanderers go in search of their first points of the new campaign when they play host to QAS at Ballinger Park.

In Sunday’s sole match newly promoted Peninsula Power will look to continue their strong start when they host Olympic FC at AJ Kelly Park.

Alex Smith’s side picked up their second win of the new campaign with an impressive 5-0 victory on the road against Capalaba to move into the top four last weekend thanks to starring displays from Bonnie Davies and Sara D’Appolonia.

Olympic who currently sit bottom of the league and suffered a 4-0 defeat to Mitchelton in their last outing chase their first win of the season on Sunday night.
