Top spot is there for the taking while just six points separate fourth and eighth ahead of the weekend’s NPL Queensland Men’s Round 15 action.
Lions host Young Roar in an important match up in the race for finals football at Luxury Paints Stadium on Friday night.
Lions climbed to fourth with a Brisbane Classico victory over City last weekend while Roar slid to seventh after suffering defeat to Peninsula Power but remain just three points adrift of Lions on the league table.
A goal from Louis Fenton, who has since departed the club secured a 1-0 victory for Lions in the reverse fixture at AJ Kelly Park in Round 4.
Lions bolstered their defensive stocks midweek with confirmation of the signing of fullback Josh Brindell-South, who returns to Richlands after three seasons with Brisbane Roar.
With league leaders Gold Coast Knights not in league action this weekend Gold Coast United will look to move to the top of standings with a victory over Peninsula Power at Coplicks on Saturday night.
United snapped a two-match losing run with a 3-0 victory over Easts last weekend to remain two points shy of top spot while Power, who remain undefeated since Aaron Philp took charge moved within six points of the finals position with a win over Young Roar.
Goals from Alex Walter and Blake Thompson saw United run out 2-0 winners when the pair met at AJ Kelly Park earlier this season.
In Saturday’s other match Eastern Suburbs go head-to-head Moreton Bay United at Heath Park.
Easts slipped to the bottom of the league table following last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Gold Coast United and are in desperate need of results if they’re to close the seven-point gap between themselves and safety.
The Jets meanwhile sit third after holding league leaders Gold Coast Knights to a 1-1 draw in Round 14 and will look to complete a league double over Easts as they continue in the hunt for their first finals appearance since 2018.
Olympic and Brisbane City are set to battle it out at the unlikely venue of Samford Parklands on Sunday evening with Goodwin Park out of action ahead of the Women’s World Cup.
Similarly to Easts, Olympic have a seven point gap to close if they’re to avoid the drop but have been bolstered by the addition of Italian midfielder Pasquale De Vita from Gold Coast Knights as well as Young Roar goalkeeper Cardiff Pond this week.
City are also looking to shoot back up the ladder after slipping out of the top four following last weekend’s Classico defeat.
Olympic and City played out a 2-2 draw when they clashed at Imperial Corp Stadium earlier this season.
Sixth placed Rochedale hosts eighth placed Sunshine Coast Wanderers at Underwood Park in Sunday’s other match.
Both sides have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes since changing managers this season with Rochedale winning six of seven since Scott MacNicol took charge to leave the side just two points outside of the finals positions, while the Wanderers have pulled away from the relegation zone with a win and draw from games against Lions and Olympic since Kevin Aherne-Evans took the reigns.
Wanderers came out on top as 1-0 winners in the reverse fixture at Ballinger Park thanks to a Matthew Nezval penalty.
Round 15’s final match between Gold Coast Knights and Redlands United will be played on Tuesday, July 4 with Knights facing Edge Hill United in Cairns in Australia Cup Preliminary Round 7 action on Sunday.
