NPL Queensland Women's Round 4 Review

Lions two and a half season unbeaten run came to an end as Gold Coast United moved to the top of the table over the weekend’s NPL Queensland Women’s Round  4 action.

Eastern Suburbs 3-1 Lions FC

Lions 61 game unbeaten run ended with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Eastern Suburbs at Heath Park on Sunday afternoon.

Easts lead 3-0 after just 38 minutes courtesy of a brace from skipper Sofie Persson and an early Maya Brueckner goal.

Macey Edward pulled a goal back for the defending Champions but it proved to be a mere consolation as Lions tasted defeated for the first time since October 2020.

Sunshine Coast Wanderers 0-4 Gold Coast United

Sunday’s result allowed Gold Coast United to move to the top of the table with a 4-0 win on the road against Sunshine Coast Wanderers.

 

Zoe Corbett got on the end of a superb Momo Hayashi through ball and finished to put United ahead after just four minutes.

Hayashi then won and converted a pair of penalties to add to a Charlotte Farmer goal as United rounded out the scoring with a 4-0 half time lead.

Capalaba FC 0-5 Peninsula Power

Peninsula Power moved to fourth on the ladder with a 5-0 win over Capalaba, who finished with 10 players after Maddison Rejtano was sent off late in the contest.

Bonnie Davies netted a hat-trick including a silky backheeled finish while Sara D’Appolonia scored twice for the visitors.

Mitchelton 4-0 Olympic FC

Talia Sanders came back to haunt her former club, bagging a brace in Mitchelton’s 4-0 win over bottom-placed Olympic at Teralba Park on Friday night.

American forward Kallie Peurifoy also chipped in with two goals as the Mustangs grabbed their second win in as many weeks.

Souths United 1-1 QAS

Elsewhere, Souths United and QAS played out a 1-1 draw at Wakerely Park on Friday night.

Rosie Sutton put Souths ahead with a clinical finish from the top of the box before Georgia Dean equalised from the penalty spot in the 36th minute to earn QAS a share of the spoils.
